Vitamin K2: importance and sources

Vitamin K2 (also known as menaquinone) is an essential, fat-soluble vitamin. The best sources of vitamin K2 are cheese made from raw milk from grass-fed cows, fermented plant foods such as sauerkraut or natto (fermented soya from Japan).

Vitamin K2 or vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal blood clotting.

Interaction of vitamin K2 and vitamin D3

Vitamin K2 should be taken with vitamin D3, as the two substances work together.

Who is vitamin K2 important for?

  • contains no allergens or soya, no additives or preservatives and is vegan
  • is not genetically engineered and is completely GMO-free

Vitamin K2 Vida therefore contains the best possible vitamin K2, which is available in its active form, with maximum bioavailability and without impurities.

Bioavailability of cis and trans

The cis form of vitamin K2 is considered biologically inactive. Depending on the manufacturing process, undesirable cis-isomers can form and the product can no longer be labelled as all-trans*. Chemical solvents are often used in the preparation of K2 vitamins, some of which may remain in the product. Vitamin K2 is only maximally bioavailable if 99% of it is present in the trans variant (all-trans).

In the mixing process, the raw materials are micronised, i.e. they are crushed to a particle size of approx. 60 micrometres without being heated. We only use vegi capsule shells made from plant-based material (HPMC) without gelatine. Vitamin K2 Vida uses Capsule size 1.
