People on the autistic spectrum have to struggle with significant disadvantages in everyday life. Their families are also always affected. The causes are largely unknown.

However, according to Dr. Heinz Lüscher, the focus is increasingly shifting to dietary habits, changes in the microbiome and inflammatory bowel diseases. The sharp increase in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is worrying. Whereas in 1975 one child in 5,000 was diagnosed with ASD, by 2020 it was already one child in 100, and the trend is rising. This 50-fold increase can partly be explained by the fact that many cases of ASD were not recognized as such in the past, but never to this extent.

In view of this growth and the limitations that people with ASD have to live with, new therapeutic approaches are urgently needed.
