Recovery – recovery and restoration
In German, “recovery” means recovery or restoration, depending on the context. In the medical and health sector, recovery means the phase of physical and mental recuperation during and after an illness, an operation or a stressful life situation. The term covers various aspects of the regeneration and healing process. A PNI food supplement can optimally support you in your recovery and restoration with selected substances that have an effect on the psyche, nervous system and immune system.
Actively support your recovery and restoration
There are many different challenging life situations that can upset our physical and mental well-being. You feel “exhausted”, suffer from tiredness, exhaustion, lack of energy and everything becomes too much. Sleep suffers at night and there is a lack of concentration, focus and motivation during the day. This can be caused by hormonal shifts during pregnancy, breastfeeding or the menopause, for example. But the stressful baby and toddler years can also take their toll on parents. Other possibilities include professional stress, difficulties in relationships, family problems or supporting relatives in need of care and much more. The body and soul also need recovery during and after long and serious illnesses or after surgery. At such times, it is particularly important to take good care of yourself and take as holistic an approach as possible. Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) can offer good suggestions here. PNI is an interdisciplinary field of research that investigates the interactions between the psyche (psychological processes), nervous system (neurobiology) and immune system (immunology). It investigates how thoughts, emotions and stress influence the immune system and, conversely, how immune reactions can change the brain and behavior. The nervous system is the key mechanism that explains why mental states (e.g. stress, anxiety, joy) have a direct impact on the immune system. It is the central control organ that processes impulses from the environment and influences immunological reactions.

Recovery from illness
- Acute infectious diseases: recovery from flu, COVID, mononucleosis, etc. can take a long time. Even after several weeks, you may feel that you have not yet regained your usual resilience and energy and that your immune system has not yet fully regenerated.
- Chronic and serious illnesses: For diseases such as autoimmune diseases or civilization diseases, recovery means managing and improving the state of health through various therapies and lifestyle changes.
Recovery after operations
After a surgical procedure, the body goes through different phases of recovery. The acute phase with close monitoring is followed by the early recovery phase, which still takes place in hospital; monitoring is relaxed, pain is controlled and mobility is promoted. The long-term recovery phase includes, for example, the restoration of normal organ function, scarring and a return to full physical activity. Especially after major surgery, the psyche must also recover from the stresses and strains.
Rehabilitation
Medical rehabilitation is a special part of the recovery process that focuses on restoring physical functions as well as the psychological situation:
- Physiotherapy: To restore mobility and strength.
- Occupational therapy: support in returning to everyday activities.
- Psychotherapy: Help with psychological recovery after trauma or mental illness.
Mental recovery
In addition to physical recovery, mental recovery also plays an important role. Stress management techniques such as breathing exercises help the nervous system to regain its balance. Lifestyle changes with sufficient periods of rest and time for things that are good for you help to restore your mental balance. At the same time, all of this also has a positive effect on the immune system.
Factors that promote physical and mental recovery (PNI):
- Healthy diet: A balanced diet with sufficient healthy proteins, fats and carbohydrates as well as vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals is important for the body and mind.
- Regular exercise: Moderate exercise, preferably in the fresh air and in daylight, promotes physical and mental health.
- Sufficient and regular sleep: 7-9 hours of good sleep per night are crucial for physical and cognitive regeneration and recovery.
- Hydration: Adequate hydration is important for almost all bodily functions and general well-being.
- Stress management: Anything that helps to reduce stress balances the nervous system, promotes mental recovery and relieves the immune system.
- Work-life balance: Regular breaks from everyday life help to calm the nervous system and improve mental health.
- Set priorities: Certain situations in life can demand everything from you, so it’s important to set priorities, keep your wits about you and delegate things.
- Positive social contacts: Positive conversations and happy times with friends or family promote holistic well-being.
- Hobbies: Activities that give pleasure and strengthen talents distract from everyday stress and have a relaxing effect.
- Healthy routines: Regular sleeping and eating routines regulate the biorhythm. Positive affirmations and thoughts help to create a new perspective and more self-confidence.
- Digital detox: Regular digital breaks make it easier to “switch off”, perceive life more consciously and reduce stress.

A PNI dietary supplement can provide additional support
Anyone who tries to implement the above tips is well on the way to recovery – recovery after a debilitating illness or surgery, but also to achieve significantly more well-being and energy in the event of a chronic illness or difficult situation. In addition, a so-called PNI product can provide optimal support for holistic recovery. A PNI food supplement supports the psyche as well as the nervous and immune systems with various natural ingredients and positively influences the interactions between these three systems.

Some interesting ingredients from “Herbal Hero”
Roseroot
Rose root has been used in traditional medicine for centuries and is one of the most important adaptogens – plant substances that are said to make the body more resistant to stress. The active ingredients rosavin, salidroside and tyrosol are found in the roots and rhizome, which smell of roses and have long been used in Russian medicine, for example. The plant can help to cope better with physical and mental stress and to balance bodily functions that are disturbed by stress. It is said to promote calmness, resilience and stress resistance.
Quercetin from the Japanese string tree
Quercetin is a natural pigment from the flavonoid group. It is found in high quantities in capers, red onions and old apple varieties. The flowers and buds of the Japanese string tree(Sophora japonica) are also particularly rich in quercetin. Originally from East Asia, it is also planted in parks and gardens here. As a powerful antioxidant, quercetin scavenges free radicals that promote inflammation, ageing and chronic diseases. You also benefit from better performance and recovery.
Dandelion
In naturopathy, dandelion is said to transfer its resistance to the user. Accordingly, it is used in cases of exposure to environmental toxins, weak immune system or sluggish metabolism. Its toothed leaves are particularly rich in nutrients: they contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory plant substances (triterpenes, flavonoids, carotenes), numerous minerals and vitamins. They also provide essential oils, tannins with an antimicrobial effect and fiber-rich inulin for a healthy intestinal flora. The high content of bitter substances stimulates the production of digestive juices and thus supports digestion.

All ingredients not described here also aim to work together to have a positive effect on the psyche, nervous system and immune system. Together with a holistic lifestyle that promotes recovery and restoration, improvements in well-being can be achieved.
Note: The “Herbal Hero” contained in the Recovery Box is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, all three products are also available individually.
